One of the items that many organizations have found helpful is the
Maturity Instrument. The purpose of this tool is to help you gauge or measure your development program’s current level of maturity and to visualize the changes that must occur for it to mature further. The document outlines a series of descriptors organized in ten categories. The categories attempt to capture the essential elements of an institutional advancement program. They range from narrow programming areas such as “annual giving” and “alumni relations” to broader institutional elements such as “governance.”
